Birthday Season Part 2

Next came Dallin's Birthday:

His day started out pretty normal with his homeschool schedule.  We planned a little surprise in the afternoon though.  Peter came home a little early, picked up him and his best buddy/cousin and took them to a trampoline place called Sky High.  They had such a blast and could not stop talking about it all the way home.  They had such a great time together.

When he got home he opened a few small gifts.

He wanted to go to his favorite mexican restaurant for dinner so off we went.  He had is usual bean burrito kids meal and was happy as a clam.

He was happy about his birthday treat, but I guess I captured the wrong moment!
One of his main gift from his siblings was this trophy.  If you know Dallin, you know that trophies are a big deal.  We got the idea to do this from Peter's mom and ordered this from a trophy website.  We made sure it was BIG, his favorite color and the inscriptions says "Dallin Dickinson, June 3rd, 2013, The best big brother in the world."
We had a little cake to end the day and that was that(recycled Lego candles apparently).  We pulled out one last surprise after everything as well.  It was an envelope from Mom and Dad that said that he was going on an overnight trip with dad to the Mt. Hood Summer Adventure Park! We recently decided to take a one on one trip when each child turns 8 so even though he turned 10 we needed to get him caught up. When I tucked him in that night he told me that he had the best day ever.
A couple of weeks later Peter and Dallin were off on their adventure.  They stayed in a hotel in Sandy, not far from the mountain.  They Swam a lot, went and saw the new Superman Movie and at a waffle breakfast.
They also tried out the treadmills.  Make sure you watch the video below!

The next morning they headed to the mountain.  It was a weekday so we were hoping since it is so early in the season that there would be no crowds.  That backfired a bit when they got there and it was a little rainy so it was closed!  They told Peter that they may open in two hours if it dried up and if more people came.  We had prepaid to get a 2 for 1 deal so it was devestating.  Peter is not a quiter though, so not being too discouraged, they went on a beautiful hike up the trails of the mountain.  He made sure his presence was known and that he wanted the park to open and sure enough, it did!  The crowd was so small that they could do anything they wanted over and over the rest of the day.  Whew, that was a close one!  Alpine Slide:

Dallin attempted to make a treadmill video for us.  It has provided us so much laughter.  He laughs the hardest.  Peter said that after this, they thought about deleting it so he wouldn't be embarrased, but they were so glad they didn't because everyone loves it so much.  I am glad Dallin can laugh at himself. He didn't get hurt of course, you can hear him giggling after.

Here is Dallin ziplining:

And here is Dallin encouraging his dad to jump! Dallin didn't quite make the weight requirement to do the bungee.  Not too bad for Dallin's first videoing experience though:

Finally the Alpine Slide. The did this over and over and got really fast at it according to them:

Birthday Season

We have Carter, Dallin, then Tanner's birthdays all in a row so I call it our birthday season.  It's kinda all we do for a month.

This year we opted to just do one big combined party for all three boys, but that didn't get me off the hook from being busy.  I spent a lot of time finding thoughtful gifts that were just right for them. We also tried really hard to make each boy feel extra special on their actual birthday and the whole week to follow.  We did a small celebration on their real day with just us and gave them their gifts.  There were lots of hugs and talking about how happy we are that they are in our family.  We also went out to eat and dedicated any other outings that we happened to do during their week to the birthday boy. I didn't always get pictures of everything, but here's the run down for each kid:

Carter was first. He got several small gifts from his siblings and this BIG gift from Mom and Dad:

A new bike! He was way to big for his tricycle and we found one in his favorite color.
This immediately prompted a family cul-de-sac bike ride.

It is a perfect size so he was one happy camper.
And I just had to document our naughty little mascara/cake loving girl!

Peter found some Lego candles, which Carter thought were pretty cool.
We had free kids meal vouchers at Elmer's pancake house and Peter's dad and some siblings joined us for a birthday dinner.  We also went to John's Incredible Pizza that week just for a fun outing(no pictures).

Carter was very happy about being the special boy and every morning he would wake up and ask if he was still the birthday boy.  I would tell him "yes, you sure are!"  It made me glad that birthdays last a week at our house.  Even if it just means extra hugs and words of endearment or making their favorite meal.  They anticipate their Birthday all year long and it would be a shame for it to be over too quickly. We sure love Carter's cheerful and busy self.

Grandpa Dickinson

Grandpa Dickinson passed away in May. We really miss him. He wanted to live to be 100, but fell just short (96). His body gave up, but his mind was as young and sharp as can be. He was always so kind and generous to all he loved and his family was the pride and joy of his life. At the funeral I sang with several sisters and the kids sang "I know Heavenly Father Loves Me." Eden and her cousin Lindsay sang, "When Grandpa Comes."  Peter and Dallin both talked about their fondest memories of Grandpa.

Here are a few pictures from the burial service.  He was a Merchant Marine:

Conference, Grandpa's 98th, St. Patricks, and a Trophy

Here are a few random pictures from life I found on my computer. They are a couple of months behind, and certainly not a good representation of April(give or take), but it's what we have, and not even in order.

General Conference weekend.  Always fun, but still trying to figure out what works best for our family.  I tried buying the big kids all their own special Conference notebook this year and that was a flop, but they lasted a while. They liked the treat buckets and activity pages. Eden wasn't happy for some reason in this picture, but it's the only one I have with every one's faces and no one picking their nose!

Grandpa Hedman's 98th birthday.  He was in great spirits at his party (his favorite Chinese restaurant).  He shared a very strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ to us.
Lily, mingling and eating with her new friends.

The St. Patricks day parade is our favorite because it is not crowded and the kids get lots of candy.  It is a quick, easy one.

Eden had the great idea of painting our nails green for St. Patricks. Any chance for some girly time, I'll take it!
And this little girl got into the hot chocolate.  She is a messy one, she is!
