Once again, I have learned that my mood affects the whole family. This week, for some reason, I have been so frustrated with the kids and trying really hard not to show it. I think pregancy has really affected my ability to cope with our toddler busyness. The last few days Dallin's noncompliance issues were at an all time high. Whatever I wanted him to do, he would give that mischeivious grin and do whatever he could to make me go crazy instead. He has actually been so much better at going to bed the last couple of weeks and then I had another really hard night of putting him to bed which just added to everything. Eden was also giving so much drama whenever she was upset and her whining and tantrums felt like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. So as I thought about what in the world was making things so much more stressful than normal, I came to the conclusion that it was me. I was not using the motherly patience that was required and it was making me stress out. I knew the kids deserved more, but I was so tired physically and mentally and I didn't feel like I had it in me. So yesterday, I told myself, I had to do better. These kids need a patient mommy who talks in sweet loving tones. I had to be nurturing and be better at creating a peaceful mood in the home.
So yesterday, I was so nervous about Dallin coming home from school because his home therapy was cancelled and I knew I was going to have to face the noncompliance alone. So, when he got home I gave him a big hug and talked to him all about whatever we could think of in a very animated way. I helped him go potty, and made sure not to be too demanding. Then I helped him find some toys to play with and only used positive words. The difference was so amazing. All of the sudden he was on my side again. We were laughing and playing and It was the same with the other kids too. I don't even think I was being a whole lot different, they just sense it. Anyway, we had a wonderful afternoon with bike riding, a walk with our new stroller, family dinner, and scriptures and prayers went better than ever before. They kids were so happy they were hugging Peter and I and each other because the spirit of love was so strong. Then I gave each of them a clean up chore with toys and they happlily did it. Okay, that is new! Bed time was a complete breeze too and I was completely stress free. All night I had the song Love at Home in my head. I wish every day could be like that. I wanted to write about it so that I could remember that it is possible. Being a mother sure does give all the reasons in the world to strive for perfection. There is no room for selfishness. It is kind of embarrassing to admit that we don't have this love at home all the time, but this is a good lesson for me and it is real life. One of my friends refers to parenting as a "refiners fire", and that is so true. There is no better way to describe it.

Cute Dallin
Dallin's bus was really late today so it was light outside by the time he got on. I usually stand and wave but today I think he could see me more than usual. We were waving at each other and then I blew him a kiss. He blew one back and it was so sweet! What a cutie.
Another cute thing lately is Dallin is always handing me my "rainboat". That is what he calls the remote.

The Blog Book Has Arrived
The blog book that I made finally arrived so here is my review:
I am impressed with how nice it turned out. The pictures look very good and I love the 11x13 size. What a treasure to have. I am so exited to have a journal from this time of life and it feels so permanent to have it in print. I would recommend http://www.blurb.com/ because it is affordable and pretty good quality and their program is very easy to use. My sister does heritage makers which is definitely higher quality books, but for a lot of pages, this was very economical and easy to download the blogs. Now I can't wait for my 2008 book. Maybe I will start working on it now. I put a few of my favorite pages here:

President Hinckley
I am filled with joy and sadness as I reflect on the passing of this great prophet. At the age of 97, I could guess that a release from this life was a joyful experience as he was excepted into the arms of his wife and loved ones. President Hinckley was a prophet since I was in high school and his service has been such a wonderful time for our church. I loved to hear him speak with boldness and strength. He loved the Gospel and lived it his whole life. He made so many contributions to the church with technology and as a prophet with Temples. What a goal centered optimist. He saw so many great things for our church and brought them to pass. He saw the faces of those in other places and did whatever he could to bring them the opportunity of temple blessings. He always sparkled when he came into a room and spoke so positively and with a great sense of humor. I remember seeing him in conference and I loved the feeling that came over the room when he entered the room. He waved his cane at everyone which was so endearing that everyone laughed. I remember when I was in the BYU Women's Chorus when we preformed a concert in the new conference center. President Hinckley came and sat in the center of the front row. I felt like I was singing what was in my heart to him. I will always remember seeing him there and feeling my testimony grow as I watched him listen to our music. I loved hearing his 6 be's and all of the wisdom of his dress and grooming standards. I remember sitting in the living room of my college apartment and hearing him counsel against more than one pair of ear piercings. Having double holes in my ears, I vowed never to wear more than one pair again immediately. Because I have scars in my ears from the second hole, I will have to explain to my daughter why they are there. I am glad that I will be able to tell her that I followed the prophets council right away and never went back on that. President Hinckley was my prophet as I am sure many feel such a personal love for him. He was a great leader and prophet in the Latter Day dispensation.

Monster Jam!
We decided that Dallin was finally old enough to really appreciate a monster truck show so Peter and Dallin had a special date last weekend. They had a great time of course. Peter was smart and took some big old earphones to cover Dallin's ears. It was really loud, but Dallin stayed in his seat and watched the whole show. They had so much fun! The next day when I asked Dallin about it he told me that the monster trucks ran over the cars and jumped in the air.
Miss Eden felt really left out when I told Dallin that he was going to the show so I promised Eden that when they went, She and I would go buy her a new dress. She was more than content with that and we had a fun girl night too.

Tanner Language/Close Call
I realized that Tanner is talking so much, but most of it no one would understand but me. Here are a few things that he says all the time:
awe stu! - I'm stuck
awe poopo0 - I'm poopy (this one suprised me because when he poops he then comes and tells me)
get dow - get down (out of his high chair)
holdoo! - Hold you (pick me up)
Ewe! - pretty clear, this one is usually talking about his diaper too.
Meel- milk (he begs for it all day, but I only let him have 2 cups a day)
kiki- blanky(he is a total blanky boy always carrying the favorite one around)
heyow - hello
haw daddy- hi daddy! (he says this to just about anyone)
agi - candy
kiki - also means cookie
all duh - all done
api - airplane
These are a few examples, but he talked like this all the time. I am constantly surprised when I think about what he says because it really means something in his own little Tanner language.
I am haunted by what happened last night. It seems like we have had to save Tanner so many times. Anyway we were watching a movie all of the sudden, I heard the familiar clicking sound of our gas range being turned on. Realizing that Tanner was in the kitchen I panicked and started screaming and getting up as fast as my belly would let me. Peter jumped up and passed me and grabbed Tanner just as the flame lit. Tanner had used his high chair as a ladder to get to the bananas on the counter next to the stove and he was sitting right on the burner that was lit. It was too close for comfort. I could tell you 3 or 4 stories just as scary about that boy. I guess I have to keep his high chair out of the kitchen and my counters completely cleared off from now on. As nice as a gas stove is, it isn't worth having with small kids. Eden started a fire with it the day after we moved in and Dallin has turned it on once too. Scary stuff!

Cariboo
We bought this cranium game at Target called Cariboo last week. Oh my word, the kids LOVE it. It is really simple and they get to hunt for "treasure" while matching letters, numbers and colors. It is so cute to watch them play. The only skill they really need is to take turns so it is perfect for them. Dallin begs to play it every day. He would take this over candyland any time.

I got this from my LDS Autism Yahoo Group
"Welcome To Holland"
When you're going to have a baby, it's like you're planning a trip to Italy. You are all excited. You get a whole bunch of guidebooks and you learn a few phrases in Italian so you can get around. When it comes time, you pack your bags and head for the airport---for Italy.Only when you land, the stewardess says, "Welcome to Holland."You look at one another in disbelief and shock and say, "Holland? What are you talking about? I signed up for Italy!"But they explain there's been a change of plans and you've landed in Holland, where you must stay. "But I don't want to stay. I don't know anything about Holland!"
But you do stay. You go out and buy some new guidebooks. You learn some new phrases and you meet people you never knew existed. The important thing is that you are not in a filthy, plague-infested slum. You are simply in a different place than you had planned. It's slower paced than Italy, and less flashy, but after you've been there a while and you have a chance to catch your breath, you begin to discover that Holland has windmills, it even has tulips.
Holland is beautiful. But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy. They are all bragging about what a good time they had there. For the rest of your life you will say, "Yes, that's where I was going. That is what I had planned."The pain of that will never, ever go away. You have to accept that pain because the loss of that dream, the loss of that plan is a very, very significant loss.
But if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you will never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things about Holland.

Eden Strikes Back!
Eden has not had an easy life with her big brother always there for a beating. She has put up with a lot from Dallin. I guess she finally cracked. Our sweet little princess has another side. This is Dallin's favorite kind of play anyway. This really is his dream come true.
Last night our kids were beyond hyper, so what is a parent to do? Grab a video camera!
What I really want to know is, are my kids the only ones that ever act like this? Maybe normal parents would have stopped them, but oh well. They were both laughing hysterically the whole time so we knew it was all for fun.

Getting Big
As we were shuffling around the house this morning getting everyone ready for church I noticed something for the first time. It is getting hard to bend already. I found that I was avoiding things like putting shoes on kids and asking Peter to do it for me. Hmmmm....I don't remember ever feeling so big this soon in a pregnancy. I have always been pretty slow to show. I keep thinking that it is just that the style of clothing is more clingy than it was before, but this proves that I am getting big. Wow, I still have four months to go. I always conveniently get amnesia about this stuff when I am not pregnant so I keep doing this to myself. This is very motivating to keep walking and trying to have a fit pregnancy so that I can manage another 18 weeks of pregnancy. Oh well, I know it is worth every minute for the end result. :)

Another IEP Meeting
If you don't know what this is, and IEP meeting is when you have a special meeting with the school district, teachers and therapists to talk about your kids to determine any actions that need to be taken with special needs. It also helps everyone to be on the same page with their different evaluations and goals.
A couple of months ago, at one of these meetings I requested that Dallin be evaluated by a speech therapist to see if there was a need for speech therapy. That evaluation was done and this was a follow up meeting to discuss results. The great thing was that Dallin's articulation is very age appropriate. He speaks really clearly. He has a lot of word and uses a lot of sentences, but his expressive language is in the 4th percentile. This is because he has trouble with WH questions. He also doesn't look at the big picture in a situation. For example he can identify every animal on a table by name, but he can't generalize them into calling them animals. When he sees pictures with scenes or scenarios, he focuses on one thing like the grapes, not the picnic shown in the picture. So these are a couple of areas that we need to work on. He also can't really talk or understand past tense much at all yet.
The therapist said that she believes that he is progressing so fast with his school and home therapies, that he will catch up and doesn't really need additional therapy. I was skeptical with this, but after talking for a long time, I am content with that decision. He is growing so rapidly that I think she is right. Poor little guy has such a busy schedule as it is.
The best part of the meeting for me was when the district supervisor looked at me and told me outright that the gap is closing very quickly with Dallin and she really thinks that he has a great chance of attending a regular Kindergarten. THE GAP IS CLOSING!!! This ABA therapy works! His school is giving him such a head start too. It is a beautiful combination. Wow, to hear that from someone who follows him closely brought tears to my eyes. I have spent so much time wondering and worrying about where his potential would be. I dream of some day having all this hard work and time pay off and having his diagnosis removed (it happens!) but I try to be real about it too. I just love him so much and he is such a sweet little boy. I want to give him every opportunity for success that is possible.
So now that the meeting is over, I still may look into some private speech therapy, but I am leaning towards agreeing with the school district that it may not be necessary. Next month I will start him up with some rec center soccer which I think will be great for his energy level, social skills, and following directions. I am also really considering a special diet for his food sensitivities again (we did that once before) at least on a trial basis. I really think this could help with hyperactivity. So that is my plan for now, just keep working with him and never giving up on his progress. Now if we could just get a handle on the potty training and bed time so that I can have some sanity that would be great.

I Wrote a Book!
I wanted to put all of my Blogs from the last year and a half into a book and I found a great site that sucks all your blogs into a book for you in a free and user friendly program (http://www.blurb.com/). For the last 2 weeks I have been working on formatting everything in a cute way and trying to put it into a variety of page layouts and font sizes. I probably spent 20+ hours on it. All the hard work of collaborating pictures and writing were all there so it was a very doable project for me. I am not a scrapbooker so this is my best attempt at making things look good and aesthetically pleasing. It is kind of plain, but I thought it would be more sophisticated that way. Maybe next time I will be more creative. I think my next project will be a wedding album. Anyway, I finally ordered it today, all 240 pages 11x13 sized! It was very affordable considering all of the time that it covers and I am so exited to get it. So here is a link if you want to preview the first 15 pages (it won't let me show the whole thing for some reason). I will let you know how it turns out when I actually get it, but this is my first book so don't judge it too harshly. Once I get the book I will attach a DVD with all of the little videos in the back cover. Wow, I wrote a book! I am an author(sort of)!

Recipe Reviews
I noticed that lots of the recipes being mentioned from the Dickinson book so here are the my reviews. The other day, I had a really busy afternoon and didn't have time to make an elaborate dinner, so I tried Lisa's tuna patties. Yum! That is the first time I have gotten my kids to eat tuna. I think they like things that they can dip in ketchup and I made them small like chicken nuggets. Last night we tried Kari's parmasean ranch chicken. Another hit, at least with Peter and I. Peter was totally impressed, and I liked how easy it was. My kids did eat some, but they are not big chicken eaters. So for the rest of this week I am also planning to try the chicken and steak kabobs, pizza spaggetti and creamed tuna and of course some caramel brownies to top it off. So fun!

Louder Than Words
I read this book last week and wanted to give my little book report. Jenny McCarthy is an actress who has a little boy with autism. This is just a book about her journey. Not everything she went through is the same as me but I found so much in common with her and what it is like to be a mother with these challenges. For some reason it was really nice to relate to her. I didn't like how she used bad language, but other than that I found it well written and very descriptive. Anyway, I enjoyed it and thought it was funny how she kept bringing up the missionaries. I guess when her son was having seizures all the time she called them and asked them to come and bless her son. They did and then they kept coming back to try to teach her the discussions. In the end she did take the first discussion and admired their great faith, but that was it. It was a good read and only took 4 or 5 hours to get through.

The Greatest Gift
I never want to forget this time of my life, which is why I keep counting my blessings. So here are a few from today:
- I found out my oldest sister is going to have her third baby. Her youngest is 5 so I am exited for her and her family.
- Peter's work is on site so he goes wherever the job is. For the last two weeks, he has been working on a college in Truckee, CA which is on the border of Nevada and also in the mountains. The night before he started I cried because I was so worried about his safety driving in the snow. Because it is a 2 1/2 hour commute he has been leaving the house at 4:30am. This has been very scary for me and he has not had much time with the kids because he is gone before the wake and only home a half hour before bed time. So he decided to ask his supervisor if there were any other possibilities for him, and today he found out he will be working in Sacramento again on the job that he was doing before the holidays. Now he will be home by 4pm again every day and can "sleep in" until 6 in the morning, and my fears of being widowed can be at rest. Yay!
- Peter has been really stressed out about putting together his pest control team for next summer, and has had a hard time filling the spots. He wanted everyone to be experienced and good so that things will go smoothly. So last night he finally got a guy he really liked working with as well as his buddy to commit. This fills the team, so he is very relieved. Now things should be pretty set for May.
- This is the best one: Dallin's potty training has been very difficult and he was doing pretty well for a while, except he has never really gotten the number 2 thing down. Then with the holiday traveling and changes in his schedule it all went down hill. By the time we went to Oregon for Christmas he was completely back in diapers. I thought that once we got back into our routines he would bounce back to where he was pretty quick. If any of you have ever had a child that was mostly potty trained and then reverted you may know that it is way harder the second time starting again. He has peed his pants 4-5 times a day and never even sat on the potty to try for number 2. He has been very reluctant about going at all and doesn't even care if he wets himself. Bed time has also hit an all time difficulty. So now after two weeks of this I have been very frazzled and frustrated a lot. Today was a little better but then came my glimmer of hope, in the form of poo! I have had to physically force him to sit on the potty for 1 minute at a time for several days just to try to motivate him to go number two. I was loosing hope of ever seeing this boy out of diapers and then out of nowhere he just announced that he needed to go poo poo. He sat right down and after 10 minutes, he did it! I had to fight back tears. For this frustrated, tired mother this was the best gift he had ever given me. When I told Dallin that, Peter of course thought that was hilarious and made fun of me, but it is true and Dallin enjoyed his special potty treat that has been taped on the wall for several days.
- A woman in our ward asked me if we had found a respite worker last Sunday. I told her no and she offered to come and babysit this weekend so that Peter and I could go out. I was very touched by the offer. So she is coming over tonight and we are going on a date!

Tanner is so cute it is impossible to be upset with him. Lately he calls everyone daddy. He will even look at strangers and say "Hi Daddy!". It is pretty funny.

Train Show
Last weekend we took the kids to a train show in Sacramento at the convention center. Dallin LOVED it. He was fascinated with all of the miniature towns and just looked at everything. There were lots of model trains to watch and the kids even got to ride on a train ride. We also tried out our new stroller. This one is so easy to turn. It was crazy how many people stared at us though with such a wide load.
The train ride
Here is a clip of the ride.

New Favorite Maternity Pants
Maternity pants have always been a problem for me, but I was at the Motherhood store the other day and they have this new line called the Secret Fit Belly. It is like full panel but the panel is all around and a very comfortable lycra type material that goes all the way up to your rib cage. I have never had maternity pants be so comfortable. My other pet peeve is keeping them up and they really stay put. Yay, no more sagging pants. I am now a fan and they are really cute on top of it all. I just had to share because I love finding new things that fix problems that I just thought I had to live with before and I know some of you are expecting or may want to know for future reference.

More Blessings
Although we are still trying to figure out how everything with Peter's electrical hours will transfer from state to state and crossing our fingers, we did get some great news. Next month our family will be on health insurance through the apprenticeship program. We have always paid for private insurance which is expensive as well as huge co-pays and coverages. With Dallin's health and having babies all the time and one thing after another, I am always so amazed at how much we pay for our health each year. Now we will finally have a break. Our whole family will be covered with no premiums at all! Office visits will be like $15 and hospital co-pays will be paid for by the apprenticeship program. We will even get dental(we have never had this)! I am just ecstatic about this, especially with a baby coming, which should cost nothing. Now we will have no stress of lingering hospital bills or trying to save up or any of that. Best of all, now we can get Dallin some extra private speech and occupational therapy. In the past we paid $100/hr out of our pocket for speech. Now it will either be free or a $10 co-pay, which is so microscopic compared to everything he receives overall. I can't believe what a wonderful blessing this is after 6 years of quite a reality check on health care. This is one area that I will enjoy for as long as it lasts for sure. I am so totally humbled by all of the blessings our family has received since moving here it makes me cry.

Progress Report
Dallin loved going to school for the first time back today and his teacher said he did great. She sent home his progress report with all of his goals and objectives and I was so exited to read her evaluation of him. I especially love the second to last sentence. I must admit, the last 6 weeks have had autism blues big time. I wasn't sure I would survive him some days. Without much help with him it was hard to say the least, but then he did so well on our trip and now to read this I am so proud of him. I love seeing how far he has come and sometimes I can't even believe it! This is just such a good report of where he was and where he is now. In the goal portion(not shown) it was no suprise that he knows all the students and teachers first and last names. I thought some of you may be interested. Just click the picture to zoom.

Happy Things and Funny Moments
- I am very exited to try all the recipes in the Dickinson family cookbook that Tammy compiled. There are so many things I want to try I don't know where to start. I also got Deceptively Delicious, another cookbook so I have tons of new things to try.
- I found out when I got home from our trip that my ultrasound is this Friday, not next Tuesday. I don't know how I mixed that up, but I am totally exited now.
- I got so many comments on Dallin's progress when we were home. It was so awesome to hear peoples reviews after not seeing him for a while. He did so great there and I think he is talking even more after so much interaction. He is expressing himself so much more and just telling me exactly what he wants. He was so social with other children and adults thatI can also see a lot of progress there.
- Dallin has been out of school since thanksgiving and he started up again. He has also not been getting his tues/thurs home therapy and that will start today as well so he will be full time into his programs from now on. I am anxious to see how his progress goes with everything really going full force the first time for the whole 35 hours each week. We also have 6 hours of respite a week now, but I haven't found a worker yet. We are also going to have some special parent training 1 hour a week with the ABA therapist so I am exited to learn all I can.
- I love the fresh start feeling of a new year. I also feel good about having a great 2007. I am all ready to make my lists of goals, project, getting more organized, and family plans for this year.
- Christmas Cards. I love making and sending out our cards each year and I love getting the mail every day in December and seeing who else shows up in our mailbox. The pictures and letters are all so fun and I feel kinda special that someone would send me a card. When we got home from our trip, there was a plethura waiting for us since we were gone.
Funny Moments From our Trip:
- Dallin saying that anything off limits is "unavailable"
- Peter naming the first iPOT after finding Heidi's iPOD dock on the back of the toilet.
- Dallin was eating a sucker and decided to save the rest for later. He found some easy storage by sticking it through the holes of his Croc shoe. It worked very well.
- Heidi and Tammy's banter while playing Mad Gab "Tammy, I'm not crazy!" made me laugh so hard I cried.
- Dallin noticed that a key was loose on Heidi's laptop and proceeded to pull 90% of the keys off. Some required putting 3 pieces together just right for one key to fix. It took Luke, Sherry and I 2 hours to get it all working again. Not so funny at the time though.
- Tanner begging for "nanny" candy all the time.
